Dukes Meadows
IBM Volunteers
Volunteers from IBM joined the conservation charity, Dukes Meadows Trust, for a day’s work improving and maintaining the Community Garden and the new Play Area at Dukes Meadows, Chiswick, West London.  These facilities have become increasingly popular with young families over the holiday period and there is always a need for help to keep them looking good.

The 11 willing volunteers helped weed the flowerbeds, clear the pond in the garden, which has been used to run nature study classes, and maintained the shrub beds in the play area. A record 22 bags of weeds were collected. The end of the day saw both sites looking clean and taken care of.

Maria Krzyzosiak, Development Manager for Dukes Meadows Trust, said, “It was great to see the volunteers from IBM back for the third year running. The help that the IBM team provided has been invaluable and made a real difference. It was a day of hard work, but I hope it was rewarding!  As a local conservation charity we rely solely on volunteers’ help and welcome new volunteers, both individuals and organisations. Anyone can get involved.”

Dukes Meadow Trust and IBM team up! July 2010
Lynn Ford, Challenge Team Leader for IBM, said, "I organised this day as part of IBM’s On Demand Community Challenge in which IBM supports local communities all over the country.  The challenges offer IBM employees the opportunity to make significant impacts in their local communities by working together in volunteer teams for a day.  We're delighted to be back at Duke's Meadows Trust again playing our part in keeping this riverside park looking good for everyone in Chiswick to enjoy."

IBM launched the On Demand Community Challenge in 2005 to build on its tradition of supporting and empowering local communities. The initiative focuses on skills-related volunteering, enabling staff to share their knowledge, expertise and business skills with organisations and individuals. IBM’s aim through the programme is to help better equip organisations by sharing its employees’ skills, thus providing long-term, sustainable benefits to recipients.
